Flattery

முகஸ்துதி 

புகழ்ச்சிக்கு மயங்காதோர் யாரும் உண்டோ. ராகஸ்ரீ ப்ளாகில் எனது மின் அஞ்சலை யாராவது புகழ்ந்தால் மகிழ்கிறேன். இகழ்ந்தால் மனதளவில் சிறிதளவு வருத்தம்.  அது மனித இயல்பு. அதனை தவிர்ப்பது முதிர்ச்சிக்கு அடையாளம். நகுல சகாதேவர்களின் தாய் மாமன் முகஸ்துதியில் மயங்கி துரியோதனன் பக்கம் சேர்ந்து பாரதப் போரில் தருமபுத்திரனால் உயிர் மாண்டான். முகஸ்துதியால் பல உண்மைகள் நம்மை வந்து அடைந்தாலும் மமதை என்பது நமது கண்களைக் கட்டுகிறது. பள்ளியில் நான் படிக்கும் பொழுது சில விசித்திரமான் சிறுவர்கள் என்னுடன் படித்துள்ளார்கள். படிக்கும் மாணவர்களை மூன்று விதமாகப் பிரிக்கலாம். சிலர் எப்பொழுதும் ஆண்டுத் தேர்வில் முதலிடத்தில் வருவார்கள். ஆனால் ஏனைய மாதத் தேர்வுகளில் பின்னடைவு உள்ளது போல் ஒரு ப்ரமையை உண்டு பண்ணுவர். வடிவேல் சிரிப்பு பாணியில் மற்றவர்களை புகழ்ந்து அவர்களிடமிருந்து பல செய்திகளை அறிந்து அவற்றை தங்களுக்குச் சாதகமாக்கிக் கொள்வர். இரண்டாவது தரத்தில் உள்ள மாணவர்கள் பிறர் புகழ்ச்சிக்கு அடிமையாகி ஆண்டுத்தேர்வில் பின்னடைவை காண்பார்கள். மூன்றாவது தரம் எதைப் பற்றியும் கவலைப் படாத மாணவப்பருவத்தை மிகவும் மகிழ்வாகக் கழித்தவர்கள். அதனால் அவர்கள் ஒன்றும் இழக்கவில்லை. அவர்கள் தான் இன்று பல முக்கியமான துறையில் மிகவும் உயர்ந்த நிலையில் உள்ளார்கள். சர்க்கரை, காப்பி என்ற சில உணவுப் பொருள்கள் உடலுக்குக் கெடுதல் என்று தெரிந்தும் நாம் உண்பதைப் போல், புகழ்ச்சிக்கு மயங்கி நம்மை மனதளவில் உயர்த்திக்கொள்ளும் சந்தர்ப்பத்தை இழக்கிறோம்.

Who does not fall for flattery? Praising feedbacks in my blog “Ragasree” raises my spirits and criticism lowers it down.  This is, of course, human nature.  Equanimity is the result of maturity.  The maternal uncle of Nakula and Sahadeva, fell for flattery and joined sides with Duryodana and met his fate at the hands of Dharmaputra in the great war of Mahabharata. Flattery though can be revealing often blinds us from knowing our true state.  I had a few weird school mates.  Students can be divided into three categories.  There are those who will excel in the annual exams but will deliberately play low key in the monthly tests.  These students will get all the clues from others by praising others in the style of the humor actor Vadivelu.  The second category students are those who fall a prey for these praises and find themselves behind them in performance. The third category students led a carefree life, never bothered about anything and enjoyed their school days.  They never lost out anything in life later as well.  They are those who occupy important positions in life now.  We get addicted to Coffee, Sugar, etc. knowing they are not good for health.   Falling prey to flattery we lose good opportunities.
